What is Groundwork Studios?
Groundwork Studios offers individualized acting training for young and emerging artists who want to dig deeper into their craft. Through private coaching, small group classes, intensives, and college audition preparation, our focus is on building strong technique, artistic independence, and the confidence to make bold, specific choices.
Who is Groundwork Studios for?
Groundwork works primarily with teen and young adult actors at a variety of experience levels. Whether you're preparing for college auditions, working toward an upcoming audition or callback, or looking for a place to continue developing your craft, we'll help you find the training that makes sense for where you are right now.
Do I need previous acting experience?
No! Some Groundwork programs are designed for actors with previous training, while others are completely beginner friendly. Any experience requirements will always be listed in the program description. For private coaching, we meet you exactly where you are.
What happens in a private coaching session?
That depends on you! Sessions are tailored to the individual actor and may include monologue or scene work, audition and callback preparation, character development, script analysis, college audition material, or simply strengthening your acting technique. Expect to work, experiment, make weird choices, try things that don't work, and figure out why the things that do work feel different.
What makes Groundwork different from a traditional theatre program?
At Groundwork, the goal isn't to teach you how to give one "correct" performance. We're interested in giving actors tools they can take with them into any audition, rehearsal room, classroom, or production. Classes and coaching are intentionally small and individualized so that each actor has room to take risks, ask questions, and develop their own artistic voice.
Do you offer college audition coaching?
Yes! Groundwork offers individualized college audition coaching for students pursuing BFA and BA theatre programs. Coaching can include monologue selection and preparation, prescreen support, audition and callback coaching, interview preparation, and guidance throughout the audition process. Because every student's college journey looks different, coaching is tailored to the individual actor and their goals.
